Multispectral high-precision scanning polarimeter ScanPol serves for precise orbital measurements of the intensity and polarization of sunlight scattered by the atmosphere and the surface. ScanPol parameters (optional):
  • photometric accuracy: 5% (10% at 1378 nm and 1610 nm)
  • polarimetric accuracy: 0.2%
  • polarimetric stability: 0.1% per year
  • in-flight calibration of intensity and polarization
  • I, U, Q  Stokes parameters at 6 spectral channels simultaneously
  • spectral bands (nm): 370, 410, 555, 865, 1380, 1610
  • spectral bands width, FWHM: 20 nm (60 nm for 1380 nm and 1610 nm channels)
  • signal-to-noise: ~2000 for albedo 0.1 and Solar zenith angle 60º (400 for 370 nm channel)
  • FOV across track: 0.5º (6 km at the Earth surface) 
MultiSpectral Imager-Polarimeter (MSIP) will collect images on the state of the atmosphere and surface in the area,
where the ScanPol polarimeter will measure, to retrieve aerosol optical depth and polarization properties of aerosol
by registration of three Stokes parameters simultaneously in three spectral channels.

  • aerosol/clouds parameters measurements and aerosol - clouds separation
  • three spectral polarimetric channels: 410, 555, 865 nm 0°, 45°, 90°, 135° polarization each
  • two intensity channels: (1) 410, 443, 470, 490; (2) 555, 670, 865, 910 nm
  • FOV: 60°x60°, 770x770 km, resolution 3 km
  • images rate 1.5 s-1 ÷ 6.0 s-1 (dependent on data rate transmission), exposure <0.5 s 
  • calibration using ScanPol scans, <1% accuracy
